The Hale Street Gang

The Hale Street Gang: Portraits in Writing

A Photographic Exhibit with Sound

February 26 – March 27, 2011

Featuring the images of Braintree photographer, Jack Rowell, “The Hale Street Gang” uses photographs, written text, and recorded voice to foreground the work of a dozen Randolph-area seniors who have been writing their life stories in a memoir project directed by writer and Randolph native Sara Tucker.

Shawn Colvin and Loudon Wainwright III

March 13, 7:30 pm

In an era when solo singer-songwriters are ever more ubiquitous, Shawn Colvin and Loudon Wainwright III stand out as enduring and outstanding talents. Both artists have created a remarkable canon of work and for the first time ever are touring together. Colvin has won three Grammy awards, maintained a nonstop national and international touring schedule, appeared on countless television and radio programs, and had her songs featured in major motion pictures. Wainwright’s performances treat audiences to a rollercoaster of emotions from deeply moving, introspective songs to knee-slapping hilarious ones. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see these outstanding performers on the same stage!

Simone Dinnerstein and Richard Stoltzman

March 16, 7:30 pm

Internationally acclaimed pianist Simone Dinnerstein returns to Chandler with two-time Grammy award–winning clarinetist Richard Stoltzman in a recital featuring music by Bach, Schumann, Brahms, and Reich. As one of today’s most sought-after artists, Stoltzman has been a soloist with more than 100 orchestras, as well as a recitalist and chamber music performer, innovative jazz artist, and prolific recording artist. Dinnerstein’s career has been on a steady rise since her triumphant recital at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in 2005. Her recital debut with the Berlin Philharmonic in 2007 was recorded live and received critical acclaim. Gramophone reported, “this second CD of a Berlin recital provides ample evidence of gifts above and beyond the ordinary.”

David Mallett

March 26, 7:30 pm

Singer-songwriter David Mallett has been an important voice for rural northern New England for more than four decades. His songs are rooted in place and speak to the essential things that move us. They’re filled with evocative imagery, passion, and a sense of the inevitable passage of time. He has appeared on numerous broadcasts, including NPR’s “A Prairie Home Companion.” Known for his carefully crafted poetic offerings, Mallett’s body of work has provided material for an eclectic list of artists that includes Alison Krauss, Pete Seeger, Emmylou Harris, and the Muppets.

Alice in Wonderland

April 2, 11 am

A tardy rabbit, an egg on a wall that fears his fall, a grinning cat, a Mad Hatter that sips his tea, a Queen of Hearts who enjoys chopping heads off, and a young girl who refuses to do her homework. Alice in Wonderland revisited by Québec’s Théâtre Tout à Trac is a marvelous tribute to childhood and to the power of dreams and imagination. For children and adults who still enjoy chasing white rabbits! This production was the winner of the Acadie-RIDEAU award at La Soirée des prix RIDEAU 2008.

Dala & Madison Violet

April 9, 7:30 pm

Chandler is pleased to present these two emerging female Canadian duos on a double bill. Sheila Carabine and Amanda Walther comprise Dala, known for its tight vocal harmonies and creative work on guitar and piano. Their energetic stage presence and unique brand of acoustic pop have made them a favorite at festivals across the U.S. and Canada. Hailing from small towns in Canada, Brenley MacEachern and Lisa MacIsaac have chosen a slightly different musical path, one that channels their parents’ vintage record collection that includes the likes of Neil Young and Dolly Parton. Their sound has been described as both city-folk and tumbleweed pop.

Mud Season Variety Show

April 15 & 16, 7:30 pm

Chandler’s Mud Season Variety Show is a vibrant tradition, often emulated by other communities, but never surpassed. Please join us for our 17th season as we spotlight the talents of our families, friends, and neighbors! This intergenerational celebration of community has become an eagerly anticipated annual event that raises important funds to support Chandler.
