Northern Stage presents The Mountaintop
Play by Katori Hall, directed by Carol Dunne
A stormy night in Memphis, Tennessee, at the Lorraine Motel in 1968 brings us Martin Luther King, Jr., exhausted after having delivered one of his most memorable speeches. A surprise visit from a feisty maid brings unwelcome news that forces King to confront his legacy, his destiny, and his humanity. Katori Hall’s stunning portrayal reaches an other-worldly summit, leaving the theater goer exhausted, elated, and hopeful for the future. The Mountaintop received the 2010 Olivier Award for Best Play and earned playwright Hall the 2011 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.
