Local Author Focuses on Environmental Impact of New Hydro Technology

Jim Rousmaniere, author of “Water Connections: What Fresh Water Means to Us, What We Mean to Water” presents the effects of new hydro technology at 3:00pm on Saturday, August 10 as part of the American Precision Museum’s free Sustainability Speaker Series. Hydropower – the largest source of renewable energy in the nation – is not universally beloved. There are concerns about how dams can create flood risks, interrupt rivers’ natural flow, block the passage of fish, and even produce greenhouse gasses. Rousmaniere’s research-based presentation explains how newer forms of hydro from the latest power-in-a-pipe technology to low impact certification and distribution schemes can be more environmentally-friendly and so play a role in addressing climate change.
