Hanover Garden Club Program: The Flowering Amazon: Margaret Mee Paintings from the Royal Botanic Gardens (Kew)

Home to more than half of the world’s species of plants, animals and insects, the Amazonian rain forest supports a biodiversity unparalleled by any other region in the world. British artist Margaret Mee (1909-1988) made 15 voyages into the Amazon basin from 1955 -1988. Her stunning, scientifically accurate botanical drawings and paintings catalog the diversity of the Amazon basin while her diaries and journals documented her concern about the environmental damage done by mining and deforestation. Ruth L.A. Stiff, Curator of International Exhibitions at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (London) will take us on a journey through Mee’s Amazon.
