Skate the 4.5 Mile Loop at Lake Morey (Everything You Need To Know)

Feb 03, 2021 01:29PM ● By Kaitlyn Malone
Ice skating can be even better this year as you glide over a lake underneath an open sky at Lake Morey Resort. Lake Morey has a 4.5-mile loop to skate on which is the longest outdoor skating track in the United States. There are also a few smaller rinks at the center of the lake for you to enjoy as well.

Skating at the lake is free though you will need to bring your own skates. The lake resort does rent out skates and helmets to visitors and these are free to overnight guests. They provide primarily Nordic skates for $30, which have longer flatter blades that are better for longer distance and rougher ice. They do rent out hockey skates and figure skates for $17 but might not have as many in stock. Skaters shouldn't expect to use the restroom inside the building due to covid-19 safety restrictions and instead must use the public restrooms in the parking lot. The resort has a Zamboni for hockey tournaments, however, it is not used for smoothing the trail so pay attention to the weather for the smoothest ice skating conditions. A warmer day with little traffic followed by a night to freeze over the water will facilitate a more ideal skating terrain.

Head out to Lake Morey at 82 Clubhouse Road, Fairlee, VT for a wonderful outdoor adventure. The resort’s lounge is open for lunch by reservation, or you can bring lunch and a thermos of hot chocolate to warm yourself after you explore the ice. For more information check out the website.
