Classic 1902 Resort Undergoes Significant Upgrades

Jul 18, 2020 01:02PM ● By Virginia Dean
A $20 million project at the Omni Mount Washington Resort in Bretton Woods, NH, will turn 200 rooms into 269 along with a new guest lounge and poolside grill. PC Construction of Bedford, VT, is building the addition and also upgrading the conference center’s kitchen and adding roof improvements that will feature a rooftop bar and patio.

“We’re always evolving,” said Craig Clemmer, director of sales and marketing for the hotel. “We’re just like any great resort. We’re always moving forward.”

And so, the new project provides an opportunity to enhance what is already there while at the same time delighting guests with something new, he related.

“What is old is new again,” Clemmer said.

The resort broke ground in September 2019 on a 60,000-square-foot, four-story addition to the Presidential Wing that will add rooms and suites with private balconies, soaking tubs and mountain views to its existing rooms. A new bar on top of its Jewell Terrace will connect to the Presidential Wing.

“This will enhance the high quality of the rooms and add to another option to stay on the property,” said Clemmer.

The expansion is the first major project since the Presidential Wing Spa and Conference Center opened in 2008. And, it is only the third significant development since 1902.

The resort boasts as New Hampshire’s largest ski area, debuting its first eight-passenger gondola for this ski season. The gondola travels at 1,200 feet per minute and delivers guests from the base to the top of the mountain in less than five minutes, said Clemmer who added that the resort employs between 800-1200 associates depending on the seasonality.

“The more rooms we have, the more employees we will have at every facet of the property,” he noted. “The more people, the more jobs there are from our line staff to management. It’s a great place to work and a good opportunity for folks to come here and work anywhere in the Omni brand.”

The hotel is part of the larger Omni international family of companies and employees who can begin and advance their careers at various locations including the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Omni Hotels & Resorts is an American privately held luxury hotel company based in Dallas, Texas. Financing for the new upgrades is being done through its ownership. Project completion is expected by early 2021.
