The Dartmouth–Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC) in Lebanon is excited to be opening up a new geriatric emergency department to support older adults in local communities.

West Health is a collaboration between several organizations that are dedicated to providing care for aging adults. It was with their guidance and partnership that DHMC will be able to open this new Level 1 department. Both organizations have contributed millions to make this project happen.

Also exciting, it will be the first ever of its kind to open in New England.

The 3 states with the oldest median population are Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont, according to Business Insider. This is largely the driving force behind the creation of this facility.

The care that the elderly will be provided with will be advanced, with the hopes that patients will be able to go home as opposed to being sent to the hospital.

The project is currently underway, and they hope that this will spur a nation-wide movement when it comes to geriatric care.
