Tips and Tricks for Battling Dry, Winter Skin From European Face and Body Studio

Apr 03, 2019 02:00PM ● By Kevin
Spring is upon us, but some days, the weather still has a bit of a bite, which means we still have to deal with that dry, itchy skin we’ve suffered through during the winter months. This time of year, we tend to be looking for solutions so that our skin can look vibrant all year long, especially as the weather warms up.

Luckily, there are local resources that can help, such as European Face and Body Studio, 70 Main St., in Hanover. Owner Annemarie Schmidt recommends a little extra tender loving care coming out of the dry, winter months.

“We should all look into a facial that will exfoliate a little more then the exfoliation products that we can buy over the counter,” she said. “[With an exfoliating facial], skin dullness immediately disappears and [you] will have that healthy, rosy glow for weeks.”

Schmidt, native to the Netherlands and having immigrated to the United States with her husband in 1990, opened up shop in Hanover in 2013. She and her husband, who she says is also her best friend, trained for three years to be licensed in message therapy, aesthetics, and electrology (permanent hair removal). While her husband is an orthopedic manual therapist, owning two private clinics of his own in Claremont and Lebanon, he also practices out of the Hanover location. The Schmidts have four children and two dogs.

Schmidt’s love for skincare started when she was diagnosed with cystic acne at 14 years old.

“I felt that the burden was more physiological then physical and was determined to help others with all aspects of skincare,” she said. “Since the day I started to study, up until now, I have a deeper love for my profession. It is amazing what we can accomplish and how we can help our customers to achieve what they would like to achieve.”

She recommends Dr. Babor’s line of products, specifically cleanser and moisturizers, to be used both in the morning and evening, but encourages individuals with specific needs to be consulted in person, as everyone needs a personal, customizable touch to see the best results. She has used Dr. Babor products for nearly 40 years in her profession.

“Our biggest determination,” she said, “Educate! [We want to teach all of our customers] how to keep their skin vibrant, healthy, and most of all, hydrated.”

Some available services offered at European Face and Body Studio include skincare, waxing (including body waxing), lash extensions, lash perm, brow and lash tinting, and massage, to name a few.

Schmidt praised her staff – Marlene, Cassie, Kristy, and Deb – saying each member is wonderful, well educated, and extremely pleasant to be around.

“Marlene is our office manager/front desk; Cassie is my right-hand aesthetician with a tremendous amount of talent and loves the industry as much as I do; Kristy is one of our massage therapists who has a tremendous knowledge of the body and is specialized in deep tissue/therapeutic massages, and to tell you the truth, it is her favorite; and Deb is [another] one of our massage therapists, with the same amazing knowledge of the body, and very specialized in myofascial massage, lumi lumi massage (Hawaii).”

Massage therapists are expertly trained to sit down with customers in order to customize the massage to concentrate on each individual’s needed areas of focus.

“Needless to say, every single treatment in this establishment is customized, that will set us apart from most others,” she concluded. For a full list of prices and services, visit europeanfaceandbodystudio.com.
