May 21, 2015 02:13PM ● By Victoria PipasThe Cheese and Dairy Celebration starts on Saturday at 10am and lasts until 5pm, with the same hours on Sunday. Throughout each day, you will have the chance to meet some of the region’s finest cheese makers, who will be bringing their products to the farm and offering free samples. These experts will also offer details about their farming and cheese production practices so you can learn what really goes on behind the cheddar in your sandwich! This is a wonderful opportunity to expand your culinary knowledge about local products and maybe even develop a taste for some new and bold favorites.
The
events included in the Cheese and Dairy Celebration are hands-on and engaging
for visitors of all ages. Dairy education programs offered by cheese makers will
provide background knowledge of dairy farming and practices. Then visitors can learn
the ins and outs of bovine competition and quality, and participate in “Judge
Jerseys” with the farm manager. Other workshops include “Inside-Out Cow,” where
participants can learn cow anatomy, and “Cow Make-Over,” which teaches the
proper ways to care for and groom cows to be judged in a show. Children will love
making dairy headbands and moo masks. And who would say no to
Tickets for the event range from $14 for adults to $4 for ages 3 to 4, with no charge for children under three. In addition, purchasing a ticket gives visitors full access to the historical farmhouse and other farm life exhibits.
