Morano Gelato Offers Affordable Food Tour To Sicily

Sep 19, 2018 12:36PM ● By Linda Ditch
You can enjoy great gelato at Morano Gelato in Hanover, but wouldn’t it be fun to sample some in its homeland? An opportunity presents itself! The shop has partnered with Attavola Tours, an Italian company offering small group tours since 2004, to create a unique and custom-designed trip to Sicily.

CEO and company founder Morgan Morano answers a few questions about the trip:

Q: Have you sponsored food tours in the past? If so, were they to Sicily?

A: I have not! I’ve traveled throughout Italy and Sicily, and in many ways, have eaten my way through the country, but this is something I have wanted to do for many years, and I’m excited that it has come together.

Q:  How did you decide on the sites travelers will see?

A: I worked closely with Attavola to create an itinerary they are comfortable with as native Sicilians, with towns and businesses I’m familiar with or from where we source ingredients for our gelato. We wanted to create a tour that encompasses as much of the amazing Sicilian cuisine as possible. The food in Sicily is truly unbelievable and the landscape is remarkable, including the diversity of crops—from some of the best almonds and pistachios in the world to citrus fruits and wine . . . and then the seafood! There is much to explore, and we try to cover most of this within the 10 days of the trip while still retaining individual exploration time for guests.

Q: What are some of the highlights of the trip?

A: A visit to Caffe Sicilia, which was just featured on Netflix’s Chef’s Table; a visit to the Marsala region to taste Marsala wine; a cooking class covering Sicilian specialties, including cannoli and Sicilian gelato; a visit to an antique chocolate maker and cheesemaker; and a boat ride in the Gulf of Castellammare.

Q: Is there anything else you would like prospective travelers to know?

A: I’ve worked with Attavola to create one of the most affordable food tours offered for Morano Gelato customers, and I’m excited to have a tour I fully stand behind after years of being asked for suggestions by customers traveling to Italy. While I won’t be present for each tour, I will be there for most and look forward to sharing the beautiful island of Sicily with trip guests.
