Jul 27, 2018 11:58AM ● By Linda Ditch
This upcoming season, the Dartmouth men’s basketball team will compete in the second Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic November 29th through December 1st. The Sport Changes Life Foundation (SCLF) has joined forces with the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame (BHOF) and the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) to once again hold the tournament, which will be shown live throughout the United States.

The field of teams has grown to eight, including Albany, Buffalo, LIU Brooklyn, Marist, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, San Francisco, and Stephen F. Austin. Dartmouth Head Coach David McLaughlin says, ”We are extremely excited to be a part of the Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic this year. Not only does this give our players and program an opportunity to compete against other talented programs but to do so on an international stage. We are looking forward to competing in Belfast as well as experiencing a different culture. This is a great addition to our unique and competitive schedule for the 2018–2019 season."

The goal of the Basketball Hall of Fame Belfast Classic is to raise awareness of the Sport Changes Life Foundation (SCLF), which was established in 2007. SCLF’s mission is to raise the aspirations of young people through sporting excellence, academic achievement, and personal development. The 2017 tournament had more than 9,000 people in attendance, and a US television audience watched the games live via broadcast partner CBS Sports Network.

Besides the tournament, there will be a number of community relations events held around the Belfast area. A list of those events, ticket information, and the tournament schedule will be released in the coming months.

Marc Mulholland, executive director of the BHOF Belfast Classic, says, “We are so excited to welcome eight fantastic teams to the city of Belfast. We look forward to welcoming new partners to our event, and we are extremely thankful to our returning partners the Rory Foundation, Aer Lingus, Belfast City Council, Basketball Ireland, Velocity World Wide, STATS Sports, and Chaka Travel as we showcase to the world the wonderful city of Belfast and what Northern Ireland has to offer."
