Enjoy Taco Tuesdays at Candela Tapas Lounge

May 02, 2016 05:35PM ● By Gabrielle Varela
Tuesday: the underrated, overlooked day of the week. No, it isn’t yet halfway through the week, but that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t congratulate ourselves on the small victory of surviving Monday. Behold—Taco Tuesday!

A tradition that originated way back in 1982 with the Mexican food chain Taco John’s did less for the promotion of the restaurant than for tacos themselves. Now, having officially earned its place in the Urban Dictionary, an indomitable espirit de corps has risen for tacos, gathering each Tuesday and spreading enthusiasm across social media.

Candela Tapas Lounge Restaurant of Hanover, New Hampshire, is one such gathering place. Tortillas can include a whole lot of creativity, and Candela does these old-school staples so well they feel new again. In addition to the menu all-stars—Tacos de Pescado (ginger-soy marinated mahi-mahi with daikon and corn slaw and Sriracha aioli, normally $14) and the Pernil Tacos (braised pulled pork with fried plantains, jicama, orange and cilantro slaw, $13)—Tuesday brings an ever-changing menu of specials.

Crave-worthy concoctions like crispy pork belly with pineapple-Granny Smith-cranberry-sweet pepper salsa topped with a balsamic reduction and cilantro oil, and grilled chicken with guava-chipotle BBQ and fresh tomato salsa have graced past menus for this event.

So, defy whatever last random attempt at winter El Niño decides to throw our way with some spicy salsa music, half-price tacos, and fresh mint Mojitos. Festivities begin at 5pm and last until closing at 9:30pm. Tacos are $5 per order. Full menu also available. Enjoying tacos on the patio is encouraged.
