May 26, 2014 11:13PM ● By Erin Frisch

Don’t let this brief and beautiful season pass you by without spending a day or evening listening to you favorite music or artists outdoors. We’re fortunate to have so many great venues throughout New England, so pack a picnic and gather friends and family. Relax and soak up the sounds of summer! (Do not forget your insect repellent and for daytime shows, sunblock.)

John Legend – June 10

Catch the soulful vocals and talented piano playing of John Legend at the beautiful Warner Theatre in Torrington, Connecticut. The Warner Theatre was originally built by Warner Brothers Studios, opened in 1931 as a movie palace, and was hailed as “Connecticut’s most beautiful theatre.” This show is by Live Nation, and tickets can be purchased on the website.

Peter Frampton and The Doobie Brothers – June 29

The Bank of America Pavilion at Meadowbrook in Gilford, New Hampshire, has lots of great concerts this summer, including this gem. Check out their website for more information on other shows and to purchase tickets.

Billy Joel – June 26

See this six-time Grammy Award-winning artist at Fenway Park in Boston, Massachusetts. If seeing a concert in this revered stadium isn’t enough, seeing this songwriter and Rock ’n Roll Hall of Famer will make it legendary. General admission tickets are sold out on the Red Sox website, but platinum tickets are still available. For general admission tickets, be sure to check out StubHub and other ticket resale sites.

On the Run Tour: Beyoncé & Jay-Z – July 1

Head to Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, Massachusetts, to see quite possibly the biggest power couple of the past few decades. The On the Run Tour has been surrounded by a lot of hype and is sure to deliver. If this is your kind of music, be sure to get tickets while you can!

Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood – Opening July 5, 2014 for the summer season

In Lenox, Massachusetts, sits Tanglewood, an estate and music venue that is the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Head out to see the one and only BSO perform in its 133rd season this summer. They also host the annual Tanglewood Music Festival and Tanglewood Jazz Festival. See their website for tickets, pricing, and guest performances.

Jason Aldean – July 11, 2014

This country music megastar is playing at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts, along with Florida Georgia Line and Tyler Farr. Enjoy this concert in the outdoor amphitheatre 35 miles southwest of Boston. See Live Nation’s website for ticket information.

Newport Jazz Festival – August 1–3

The grandfather of all jazz festivals takes place at the International Tennis Hall of Fame and Fort Adams in Newport, Rhode Island. This event draws thousands of people from all over to a city that boasts amazing coastal scenery. The Newport Jazz Festival, celebrating its 60th anniversary as the first annual jazz festival in America, has been host to numerous legendary performances. This year, the festival features Jon Batiste, Ravi Coltrane, The Brubeck Brothers, and others. See their website for the full lineup.
